    Description

    Mauritius #1,#2 Reprint from original plate- VERY RARE   From the original plates - Printed in France around 1910´s - mint condition - no "reprint" or anything else printed on backs of sheetlet- a very Rare find.
    Dimensions match original plates sizes exactly- as close as 99.99% of us will ever get to owning these extremely rare stamps- This auction is for one orange sheetlet only-- the other single stamps are a large picture of one of the stamps in each sheetlet to see the detail in. The original copper plate was bought in 1912 by Nevile Lacy Stocken, a London Stamp Dealer, from Colonel Colnaghi, the grandson of the Governor of Mauritius during the period spanning 1847 when the PO Mauritius stamps were prepared. Colnaghi by chance found the plate in the family archives but had no idea of its significance. It was stocken that prepared the reprints, though they all supposedly had the word REPRINT printed on the backs of the stamps. This info was clearly not true. Sheetlet is in excellent mnh condition.
    Origins- single impressions of each of the two values were engraved on the back of a small copper plate, the front of which had been used for printing a lady´s visiting card. The engraver was J.Barnard, a watchmaker and engraver in Port Louis, his tiny initials JB are visible at the base  (below neck) of each stamp. The sheets are printed in intaglio and agree in every detail to the original stamps. I have a few of these Orange sheetlets  I will relist until they are all sold-
    at a very reasonable price. Please, If you do not know what you are bidding on -- please look closely-  before buying It is a fine engraving not a cheap photo copy or a cheap reproduction or any kind of reproduction- and yes it is raised ink as a fine engraving will always be (can be seen under a microscope @ 100x). If you do not understand about printing and the impossibilities of faking a fine engraving then this lot is not for you. So Yes- Please be 100% assured -> this lot is genuine and from the original plates as i have stated.
